Alumni Stories

Our alumni have made successful careers in a wide range of fields, including journalism, media, communication, and various other creative industries.

  • At JMSC, you get so many hands-on opportunities to master different multimedia skills like video reporting, photography, broadcasting, podcasting and data journalism. The faculty members are all very friendly and their doors are always open for students after class. I was able to learn and improve my skill sets in such a short period of time. The class discussions on the ethical dilemma journalists might face have also helped me make better decisions at work.
MJ 2019, Jessie Pang, Correspondent, Reuters, and FCC Clare Hollingworth Fellow (2019-20)
  • The master’s programme at HKU Journalism has been instrumental in my experience in starting out as an early-career journalist. As someone with very minimal experience in journalism before I started the programme, I was glad to be exposed to a broad range of skills which are increasingly important for reporters today – including video, digital, and data journalism.
MJ 2021, Amy Sood, Asia Reporter, SCMP, and FCC Clare Hollingworth Fellow (2021-2022)
  • The Master of Journalism programme exposed me to the multitude of skills expected of a modern journalist that goes beyond good storytelling: video journalism, understanding online misinformation, working with data and marketing your content. I joined the programme practically not knowing what doing journalism meant. But in just nine months, I was ready to report on stories with the journalistic rigour needed in a world where readers constantly question what they read.
MJ 2020, Jack Lau, Reporter, South China Morning Post
  • I never expected to develop such an unexpectedly keen interest for news events, current affairs, and how they shape our society, until I embarked on my Master’s programme journey at HKU Journalism. I learned how to question and filter information instead of passively receiving it, and also provide factual news which could serve the public good.
MJ 2020, Chloe Feng, Reporter & Presenter, Hong Kong Cable TV’s Hong Kong International Business Channel
